Actually, it gives that "error" no matter what directory I'm in when I 
invoke amrecover... even if I start in the top of the backup directory...

not a big thing.... but now, about the original question, any of you ever 
get the following:

tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
extract_list - child returned non-zero status: 2

when recovering a file?   has it happened to you?
