I am thinking of writing a whole new section to preceed the detailed
analysis of the generic tape changer interface. Or this could be an
entirely new document. This document would provide a general guideline to
getting a tape changer working.

The current TAPE.CHANGERS file is useful for someone needing to support a
new changer, but hard to understand from the outset. It dives straight into
the details without providing a background on the related components. 99%
of the tape changer questions on this list are due to people not
understanding the nature of and interaction between the components used.

This new document (or preceeding section) would simply provide a breakdown
of the components involved, list where to get drivers for each OS, and
which changers are known to work with each tape. So if someone has a
supported OS and tape unit, they could quickly get it going.
