1) It looks like you've added too many disks to your disklist at once, and
complete backups of all of them would overflow your tape (based on the tape
size you specified). To fix this, remove most of your disks from the
disklist, and add one each time you run amdump. This will let AMANDA space
the level 0 dumps over several tapes. If the level 0 dump of a partition is
larger than a tape, you'll have to split it up using tar and multiple
disklist entries. 


2) I did this when I was first getting AMANDA up and running, and there were
no errors, but I never tried to restore from those tapes. I would say that
if you are testing, and not in production, multiple amdumps per day are
fine. I would be very careful doing that in production. 

3) Probably comp-high, but I would suggest you try all of your compression
options and see which one gives the best results for you. There was recently
discussion of using bzip2 to get better compression, you might want to
search the archives for that discussion. (It was in the last 30 days, for
sure.)

I have three simple questions:

1)  I am getting warning messages like:

But the holding disk is far bigger than the areas that are trying to be
backed
up and the amanda.conf allocates almost all of it to backups.  We dont know 
why this is happening.  The machines are all comp-user dump types.

2)  If I want to perform multiple dumps in the same day in order to 
try to fix some of the backup problems I am having, will that seriously 
mess with the date accounting software, the stuff that records dumpdates
etc?

3)  Which is the setting that gives the best compression on a fast system
where
time is not an issue?  comp-user, comp-root, comp-high
