You've opened up the world to all those programs and most are not secured
against running as root. I **strongly** suggest you do another "make
install" to clean this up.

Then that's wrong. It should either be owned by "amanda" and mode 0700
or have group ownership that matches something "amanda" is a member of
and mode 0770.
My Amanda user is "backup", which is in group "backup", and here is one
of my top level holding disks:
drwxrwx--- 2 root backup 512 Nov 30 01:23 /amanda0/acmaint
Note that group "backup" has rwx permission, so can create the datestamp
directories within. This would also work:
drwx------ 2 backup backup 512 Nov 30 01:23 /amanda0/acmaint
