You also got an I/O error, and that's what triggered the out of tape
situation. Amanda cannot cause an I/O error. It is just reporting to
you what the OS told it. This is almost always hitting end of tape or
a hardware problem.
What kind of tape drive are you using? Just because you have tapes
rated at 25/50 doesn't mean the drive will do that. The tapes I have
are rated at 40/80, but only if I use a DLT8000 tape drive. Since I
have DLT4000's and DLT7000's, I don't get those numbers.
If you're pretty certain you didn't hit end of tape, take a look at
your system logs and see if anything was reported there. Then start
checking cables, SCSI termination, jumper/switch settings, controller
board seating, other devices on the bus, bad tape and the billion other
things that can go wrong with hardware.
