I would suspect the same thing. I occasionally get similar errors from one
disk partition on a DEC Unix workstation. Usually vdump will complain about
a particular file. I can replace the file with a copy from a similar
workstation, and the backups will run fine for a few more weeks. I suspect
my disk may be starting to have problems.
One trick I've found to investigate these errors is to run dump (vdump in
my case) by hand:
vdump -0f - /offending_file_system | cat > /dev/null
