I'll ask again, how do you do that in a shell script?  And remember that
it has to run on every flavor of Unix in the world, not just Linux or
Solaris, so no cheating and using other than the most generic commands
and options :-).

Also keep in mind that whether it is or is not a tar image, you have to
send any blocks you read to peek at on into the restore program followed
by the rest of the output of amrestore.  Splitting that apart and putting
it back together properly can be a challenge.

Yes, I'm sure I could come up with enough code to do this.  By is it
worth the effort?
