As a guess,
you have compression turned on on your tapedrive ,
and since tapetype dumps random data to the tape, the data written takes up
more space than the real data.
Try again with compressionn turned *OFF*.
(Though I have no clue on how to turn compression on or off on a DLT, nor
do I know how to check for it).
