Hi Jörn,

that's easy: amcheck must not be run as root, but as the amanda-user!
(normally "amanda"). It's because the program tries to connect to the client
with a rsh, and the client system doesn't allow remote connections as root
(would be a BIG security hole if it does...)

greetings,

harald

hello,

after trying <amcheck DailySet> as superuser i reseived this message:

>>>>>>>>>>>>
Amanda Tape Server Host Check
-----------------------------
/dumps/amanda: 8916324 KB disk space available, that's plenty.
NOTE: skipping tape-writable test.
Tape DailySet101 label ok.
Server check took 0.008 seconds.

Amanda Backup Client Hosts Check
--------------------------------
ERROR: saturn.systemelektronik.de: [access as amanda not allowed from

Client check: 1 host checked in 0.019 seconds, 1 problem found.

i am little bit astonished as new linux-user about "access as amanda not
allowed....."
because i'm running this command as root.
i have installed the amanda package as rpm from cd (suse 7.0 professional),
so i am not quite sure
what is set per default (.amandahosts / .rhosts). i used both in the root
dir of root and in the
home dir of the user amanda. the permissions are set right!

when i'm running amcheck <DailySet1> as user amanda, i receive the message:
ERROR: saturn.systemelektronik.de: port 1024 not secure

many thanks for any advice!
