No, it's not normal and it's not right. Since you didn't say what
version of Amanda you're using, it's a little hard to diagnose further.
I'm pretty sure I fixed some issues that resulted in this in 2.4.2.
You might also look back in the log for the previous "taper:" messages
and see what was going on. And look for a core file in the amanda.conf
directory or /tmp/amanda.
