Amanda doesn't have that restriction, although the tape would have to
not be "active", which is based on "tapecycle". Worst case, you can
use "amrmtape" to make Amanda forget about it.

That's kind of up to you. Amanda will (I think) run with only one tape,
it will just have to do a full backup every time.

Also realize how big a pain it will be if the backup script gets
confused and overwrites from the beginning, thus destroying everything
you have :-).

Amanda is only responsible for getting a whole image off of tape and
handing it to your restore program, so if your restore program can do
single files (which most can), then this should be no problem.
That's certainly the way amrecover works.
