Thanx for the help. Indeed there was a grave problem with the machine.
The '/tmp' filesystem got currupted and with it '/tmp/amanda' directory,
which I wrote you about Thursday. The only way to fix this was to recreate
the filesystem. I don't know the current state of amanda error messages, but
I think it would be worth to add the appropriate checks on '/tmp/amanda' and
the appropriate error messages (at least to the local SYSLOG). I'm no
programmer, so don't expect diffs from me :(
