Setting up a VPN-like bridge with ssh&pppd or other such thing in a
script.

start forwarding
(amcheck)
amdump host with correct target ("over the bridge")
stop forwarding

Perhaps that would work? With ssh that probably means putting about
passwordless DSA keys or interactive backups (with agent perhaps?).
