Someone else had this same symptom on a Solaris system a few days ago.
I doubt it's the same problem you're having, but look in the mailing
list archives for Subject "Problems with Solaris 8 BSM auditing and
amanda 2.4.2p2" for a couple of debugging tricks I posted.
