Hello:
I'm an Amanda newbie. I've installed 2.4.2p2 on Solaris 2.7. I'm to the
point where I can label tapes. ./configure was run with the --with-user=amanda
--with-group=operator as options.
My disklist is a subset of the following:

I understand that the AMANDA user must be in a group with read access to the raw disk
devices. There are two ways to link AMANDA and the raw device group membership.
Either put AMANDA user in the group that currently owns the raw devices (as primary or
secondary) or to pick a new group for AMANDA and change ownership of the devices.
Also, /etc/dumpdates must be r/w by that same group. Looking at /dev/vx/rdsk on this
box yields:
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 512 Oct 30 2000 geacdgA
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1024 May 30 07:30 geacdgS
crw------- 1 root root 158, 6 Jun 16 2000 opt
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 512 Jun 16 2000 rootdg
crw------- 1 root root 158, 0 Jun 16 2000 rootvol
crw------- 1 root root 158, 8 Jun 16 2000 swapvol
crw------- 1 root root 158, 7 Oct 20 2000 usr
crw------- 1 root root 158, 5 Oct 20 2000 var
Drilling down into geacdgA yields:
hcuxsstest01% ls -al
total 4
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 512 Oct 30 2000 .
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 512 Jun 19 2000 ..
crw------- 1 root root 158,38000 Oct 30 2000 vol01
crw------- 1 root root 158,38001 Dec 13 2000 vol02
crw------- 1 root root 158,38002 Dec 13 2000 vol03

hcuxsstest01% pwd
/dev/vx/rdsk/geacdgA
My challenge is that each of these raw devices was created by volume manager. I am a
little gun shy about changing group ownership and permissions. If anyone else has
been in same position and would like to share their experiences/approach, I would
appreciate hearing from them.
