I sent you a couple of notes about this in another thread, and won't
repeat them here.

If you see a gtar running, it's either doing the estimate or the actual
dump. Based on the errors you're getting, it's probably the estimate.
This has nothing to do with compression. For that you would see gzip
or compress, and only when an actual backup (as compared to getting an
estimate) is in progress.

I don't bother distinguishing between server and client installs (i.e.
I do not use --without-client or --without-server). It doesn't seem
worth the few KBytes of binaries it saves, and doing the same thing on
every machine is much simpler.
Every machine that gets backed up needs the client pieces, even the
server. So the server should get everything in any case.
