Here I'm using an HPSuresore DAT 24x6 (DDS3). Do you have an LCD panel in
front of your hardware? If yes and hardware compression is enabled, i think
you get numbers like "0.x" during write operations.
With my hardware plugged on linux box I issue the commands:
mt -f /dev/nst0 defcompression 0
mt -f /dev/nst0 datcompression 0
This before labelling (new) tapes and starting amanda dumps.
Note that /dev/nst0 is my no-rewind device.
