Yes.

Put the patterns in a file **on the client** and in the dumptype use
"exclude list <file>". You can either enter a full path name to the
exclusion file, or you can put the file in the disk being backed up
and use a relative path (at least at 2.4.2 -- I don't remember when the
relative path feature became available).
