You can run planner yourself, with some care. Make sure you do it as
the Amanda user. Then run it with the configuration name as the only
arg, e.g. ".../libexec/planner <config>" (this assumes you're using 2.4.2
or later). Redirect stdout to one file and stderr to another. When done,
remove the file named "log" in the "logdir" directory (from amanda.conf).
Looking at the stderr output, you'll see planner requesting the sizes
from the clients, the raw results, the initial schedule, any adjustments
it makes and the final result. I'm not sure which of these you're
interested in.
If you only want the final answer, that's in the stdout file (as well
as being echoed in stderr).
It's not too hard to decipher the output, but if you need something
clarified, just ask.
