ok, so it *is* the case that the UDP packet is hitting the 2.4.1
8k limit, but this seems to be due to amanda sending out two
lines for backups for each disk, one with the UTC origin date
(1970), and the other the apparently valid request. here's a
pair of lines:
GNUTAR //winhost/profiles 0 1970:1:1:0:0:0 1 exclude-list=/etc/amanda/exclude.gtar
GNUTAR //winhost/profiles 1 2001:7:24:7:33:5 1 exclude-list=/etc/amanda/exclude.gtar
does this timestamp relate to the amandates file? i apparently
had one in /etc/amandates and /var/lib/amanda/amandates, the
latter having the same date as the 2001 timestamp from the
REQ packet (2 hours earlier, though). the /etc/amandates
was stamped last in 1999. i do recall seeing that file, and
maybe i had done something to it recently, but i can't recall
directly. our systems have used amanda since at least 1999,
but i was not at the helm at that time, so i can't really
explain the /etc/amdates file other than it belonging to some
old config from 99.
so if i am correct, the problem is that the requests are doubled
due to some doppleganger list with a UTC zero timestamp (or
something to that effect) which is causing the normally 4k-ish
UDP packet to hit the 8k limit. if this is the case, do you
know how i can solve this double-request ordeal?
thanks,
-c
