Ah, I see.  None of the device I'm familiar with do that (that I know of).

I wouldn't do it.  While making the user defined blocksize change I found
quite a few places things were mixed up w.r.t. tape blocks, disk blocks,
and even network buffering, and I think there were even some hard coded
values floating around (sigh).

Let me think on this a bit.
