So that says Amanda is able to connect to the client.  You should see
amandad*debug and selfcheck*debug files in /tmp/amanda on the client.

When you run amdump, are you seeing a new amandad*debug file?  What
about a sendsize*debug file or sendbackup*debug?  What's in them?

Amanda will (attempt to) automatically convert any of the standard forms
(file system mount point or disk device name) to what it needs.
