As I recall, to do incremental backups, Amanda needs features not
available in 1.11.  The first version that had those features is
1.12, however it had a couple of bugs for which there are patches at
www.amanda.org.

As Andrew said, the "use the latest comments" refer to 1.13, if you
want to use it rather than 1.12.  Pretty much everything from "plain"
1.13 up to 1.13.16 were broken in one way or another.  I don't think
we've heard any problems from people using 1.13.19.

The FreeBSD developers probably don't use many of the GNU tar features.
Amanda does a lot more than just "tar cf ...".

Really?  I'm surprised 1.11.* would work at all with Amanda.
