That message has been changed in more recent versions.  It now says the
holding disk **may** contain images to be flushed.

Are you certain the dump it was working on will fit in the holding disk?
For instance, if the dump was going direct to tape because it did not
fit in the holding disk, and an error happened, Amanda would not bother
trying to rerun it into the holding disk (possibly, it depends on some
other issues).

You need to look at the amdump.<nn> file corresponding to one of your
problem runs and find out what was going on with the image being written
when the tape error happened.  In particular, see if it was a "FILE-WRITE"
(meaning it was coming out of the holding disk) or it was a "PORT-WRITE"
(meaning it was too big to fit).
