I've been experiencing frequent timeouts when backing up NT clients using amanda:
FAILURE AND STRANGE DUMP SUMMARY: spud //NM1/Prod lev 0 FAILED [Request to spud timed out.] spud //Mail/MailBackup lev 0 FAILED [Request to spud timed out.] spud //agricola1/software lev 0 FAILED [Request to spud timed out.] spud //Zeus/Mist lev 0 FAILED [Request to spud timed out.] where spud == localhost. I've attempted to set the timeout values fairly high in amanda.conf, without any luck: etimeout 7200 dtimeout 7200 ctimeout 7200 Note, the backups do work sometimes and the backups of the Unix systems work perfectly. Some questions: 1. Is it possible to have amanda run its sendsize checks without actually performing the dump? I'd like to try to debug why amanda never receives a reply to the the sendsize request. 2. Is it advisable to add additional aliases in /etc/host or A/CNAME's for the backup host in DNS, so that the failure of one NT client does not fail the disk group?
