Hi,
    I'm running amanda 2.4.2p2 on two RH Linux 7.1 machines, client and
server. I am having problems with the "selfcheck timed out" error. An
amcheck for the servers own backup returns success, but when the server
begins the client amcheck, the host times out. The client receives the
request from the server, creates the am*.debug file and selfcheck* file,
but does not receive the proper ack from the server. The am*.debug file
contains lines that indicate that the client continues to receive the
amcheck request packet from the server, and not the 'good job, well
done' packet from the server. i.e:
Client:
amandad: got packet:
----
Amanda 2.4 REQ HANDLE 000-58380608 SEQ 1001622775
SECURITY USER amanda
SERVICE selfcheck
OPTIONS ;
DUMP /dev/hda5 0 OPTIONS |;bsd-auth;
----
amandad: It's not an ack
amandad: sending REP packet:

    The client sends the reply packet, but the server doesn't seem to
receive them. The server, when called on it's own backup, recieves the
packet fine, which makes me think that the xinetd.conf and services
files are as they should be (they are identical on both computers). The
server and client are on the same subnet, without any firewalls between
them.
    I read several postings that had to do with increasing the timeouts
on the server for this type of problem. Unfortunately, none of these
postings described how to change the timeouts. Does anyone know how to
increase the timeouts (dtimeout, ctimeout, and whatever others there
are)? Or, if you've dealt with this issue before and know the timeouts
not to be the problem, let me know what else I can try to get the
clients reply packets read by the server?

    Thank you,
                Lalo Castro
