I have had a similar problem on quite a different system, namely an aging HP 735/99 running HP-UX 10.20, with a VXA-1 backup device. I have at various times tried a new tape, cleaning the heads, and resetting the drive, all of which seem to help for a while. My tape and disks are on separate SCSI buses, so bus contention shouldn't be an issue. Is there a firmware upgrade available for the AIT2 and/or a SCSI tape driver upgrade for the SPARC? Perhaps you should try one or both.
I know that doesn't help much; just my $0.02. -- Stephen Walton, Professor of Physics and Astronomy, California State University, Northridge [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Fri, 23 Nov 2001, Stephen Carville wrote: > I ran tapetype on my new AIT2 drive and it reported a length of 43778 > mbytes uncompressed.
