I found the reason myself. I did use /dev/rst36, it is rewind device.
I use /dev/nrst36 instead, it is resolved.

Thanks!

Subject: amrestore - Infinite loop?

Hello,

Unfortunately I have to restore a file system because of disk crash.
I found zero level dump tape by amadmin command, then I'm trying to restore
whole file system data to holding space by amrestore command. I'm still
trying it
since Nov. 22nd, almost 4 days. The console keeps dump like followings :

 > amrestore: 10117: skipping iruka.japan.cognex.com._usr.20010914.0
 > amrestore: 10118: skipping iruka.japan.cognex.com._home2.20010914.0
 > amrestore: 10119: restoring hikari.japan.cognex.com._eng.20010914.0
                     ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
 > amrestore: 10120: skipping start of tape: date 20010914 label ckk2-5-5
 > amrestore: 10121: skipping matsu.japan.cognex.com._home.20010914.1

Yes, I'd like to restore the file system /eng at host hikari. But
incremental pointer
is already exceeds more than 10,000 file marks. Unbelievable.

And I monitor restore file size at holding space, it is like :

 > -rw-r----- 1 root other 183369728 Nov 22 18:21
hikari.japan.cognex.com._eng.20010914.0

hikari.japan.cognex.com._eng.20010914.0

The file size was decrease on Nov. 25h, the it increased today again.

I doubt an infinite loop happened by something reason.
Could somebody explain what was going wrong?

Thank you very much in advance,
Yoshi
