I got the same problem after I upgraded the samba-client from 2.2.0 to 2.2.2.
Suddenly it barked about all filenames with non US-ascii characters in them.
On my amanda server, i downgraded back to smbclient from 2.2.0 and
I get no complaints anymore.
I haven't had the time to find out more (yet).
Some errors below result from files that cannot be backed up, because they
are in use.
No matter what version of samba you use, you'll fall into this problem.
As a matter of fact, I do not know any native Windows backup program
that can backup such files (except Norton Ghost, but that's not a backup
program in the strict sense).
