Hi Amanda Users,

I'm trying to set up my first Irix amanda client. I have an
.amandahosts file in /usr/people/amanda which has been copied from
another machine upon which it works. There's no firewall, inetd is
running with an amanda entry, the amanda user is the same on client and
server, and I'm getting:

ERROR: girdwood: [access as amanda not allowed from amanda@server]
amandahostsauth failed

.amandahosts contains every combination of my server's identity
(including fullname and ip address).

amandad isn't running through a wrapper. /etc/hosts on the server has
the correct information for the client.

The sys. admin who used to be in charge of backups has a "vague memory"
of having had this problem on this machine. Is it possible that
sometimes this authorization mechanism just won't work? Is Irix a big
pain in this regard just like it's a big pain in all other regards?
Would I have better luck with .rhosts? Or, more likely, am I just
missing something obvious?

Thanks for your help.

Jenn
