I think I have solved my problem, although I don't understand what happened. As I
noted, I compiled with user operator and group root. This is the way I had it set up
for 2.4.1p1 and 2.4.2p2 and it worked fine. I checked to make sure that user operator
was in group root, and it was. So I decided to add operator to a secondary group of
root, and that solved the problem. Of course, it should not work this way, so I need
to solve the problem, but I don't know what happened.

Thanks
