I had to revert my configuration, I wasn't getting anywhere
and I wasn't getting the nightly backups done.

I did a make clean, re-ran configure with user root and group sys
and rebuild the programs.

I reinstalled on the amanda-server/nfs-server and updated
/etc/inetd.conf on server and clients to use user root rather
than amanda.

--- or should I have left it as root all along...

Anyway, that server and clients are cleanly passing amcheck
tests again.

However the amanda-server/nfs-client is now showing these errors

[laksha] /usr/local/sbin 42> /usr/local/sbin/amcheck laksha
Amanda Tape Server Host Check

Amanda Backup Client Hosts Check

ERROR: running as user "root" instead of "amanda"

(brought to you by Amanda 2.4.2p2)

Why is it expecting to run as user "amanda" rather than root ?
I did modify /etc/inetd.conf to use root and did HUP the daemon.

This is making no sense to me... does it make any to any of you ?

                                                thanks,

                                                Brian
