In the amdump file is a section of "pondering" messages like this:
pondering operator2.cc.purdue.edu:/home/operator/a_local...
...
curr level 1 size 87 total size 6183 total_lev0 0 balanced-lev0size 6453
The "size" value on the "curr" line (87 in the above example) is the
estimated image size with compression taken into account.
This value is computed based on the actual compression achieved for the
last three full or incremental backups. As Joshua said, until enough
"history" is available, Amanda uses 50% (0.5).
