I've just upgraded to Amanda 2.4.2p2 from 2.4.1p1 because I was getting timeout error messages. I upgraded because Amanda 2.4.1p1 has to be recompiled in order to change the timeout value.
I'm now running 2.4.2p2 and one of the partitions I have to backup is 53GB. With the values etimeout=5000 and dtimeout=5800 it still gives a data timeout. I was wondering what would be appropriate values for these for these two settings (Allowing for future expansion)? Is there a way of working this out or is it merly a case of upping the value until the backup works, or is there some sort of ready reckoner? It's worth noting that this 56GB partion is on the same host as the amanda server i.e. localhost, so the speed of our network should not come into the calculation.
