What do you mean by "a new configuration"?

what do you find for each of the points/questions?  For instance, are
there core files in /tmp/amanda, is the amanda service still active in
inetd/xinetd, is it starting, etc.

Which "log files"?  The ones in /tmp/amanda on the client?  Do you delete
the whole directory or just the files?  Did you look at the ownership
of the directory or files first?
