i'm playing with amandas indexing feature, i'd like to have the index
file written to an index-server other then the tape-server. is it
possible to write the indexes to another system like this? i've
recompiled amanda on 3 systems, host1 (tape server), host2 (index
server), host3 (system to backup) and specified host2 as the index
server when i ran configure. compiles and installs fine and dumps to
tape. it writes out the index files on the tape-server as /path/to/indexes/`date
'+%Y%m%d'`_0.gz.tmp, then it just hangs there. this index file includes
all the entries from the filesystem i'm dumping. the only amanda process
running on the tape-server are the driver, and a few taper's. these
processes are all sleeping as i've truss'd them.

the tape server is solaris8, the other 2 are redhat 7.1.

any thoughts?
