First, remember that Amanda is not doing the backups. You've told Amanda
to run some other program (dump or GNU tar) to do them.

In theory :-), Amanda should *only* be writing into three directories:

  --with-tmpdir (default: /tmp/amanda)
--with-debugging (default: whatever --with-tmpdir is set to)
  --with-gnutar-listdir (default: $localstatedir/amanda/gnutar-lists

$localstatedir may be set with --localstatedir (default: $prefix/var)
$prefix may be set with --prefix (default: /usr/local)

The gnutar-listdir area would only be altered if you are using GNU tar.
