>1) Is this entire section concerned with determining if the next >tape is the cleaning tape? IOW, is the purpose of the DD to see if we >are reading a cleaning tape?
No. The purpose appears to be to write the Amanda tape label (i.e. which tape it is) to the log file. It has nothing to do with cleaning. It also makes sure the tape is ready and readable. Some systems do not return anything useful from (e.g.) "mt status" when the drive is not ready and the only thing you can do is actually try to open/read it. >3) Also, when next-tape equals first-tape, what does AMANDA *want to >do* when asked to write over the first tape in the magazine? Did I miss something? What happened to question #2? :-) :-) Not sure I understand the question (number 3, that is :-). If you've configured tapecycle properly in amanda.conf, the first tape will be the next tape Amanda wants to write on and it will just go merrily on its way. If things don't line up for whatever reason, Amanda will reject that tape and loop through the changer with "next" commands hunting for a better choice. >4) I downloaded, built, and installed mtx-1.2.16rel ... >... I could not find certain >options that are used in the chg-mtx below. ... That's because chg-mtx is not meant for mtx (go figure). What you want to be using is chg-zd-mtx. As I understand it, chg-mtx is for an old version of mtx (or something that was called mtx) on some HP boxes. >J John R. Jackson, Technical Software Specialist, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
