Greetings

The file vmlinuz-2.4.2 in the boot directory does not seem to be backed
up correctly.

If I use dump on the partition and then restore I get
'end-of-input encounted while extracting ./vmlinuz-2.4.2-2'

If I use tar to do the backups then I get:
'unexpected end of file'
during restore.

In both cases, compairing the size of the file to the original shows the
file to be
incomplete (by about 10% or less). If I setup lilo and reboot I get
"linux ran out of input data, boot halted"

I encounted the problem (tar option) on two different clients on two
seperate tapes.
I then changed to dump to see if it would solve the problem but showed
the same
thing (only tested it on one of the servers). Both servers are RH7.1
with kernel
2.4.2-2. Amanda is amanda-2.4.2p2. I have used tar on other computers
that do
not have boot in there own partition :-( and they do not have this
problem, some
are also kernel 2.4.2-2 (RH7.1).

There is no 'Strange' reported for this partition during backup and no
sign of problems
in the debug files. After replacing the file with a copy of the original
everything is fine
(I usually have to do some lilo stuff and it boots).

All other backups are made with tar and restore work fine. Both server
work after a
full restore on all partitions, if this file is manually coplied across.

I could always keep this file on a cd/stiffy, but ideally I would like
amanda to back it up.
Any ideas on how to solve this?

Regards
Warrren
