Hello,

Well, last week I set up AMANDA and I'm pretty sure that I got it
done correctly. However, how do I know that it actually ran as I
thought it would? I followed instructions for creating a cron job
(under Linux RH 7.2) for the user AMANDA, and set it to run on Friday
night only. How do I know that it worked? When I got in to work today,
amanda had no mail waiting, but the man page for cron said that mail is
only sent if cron determines it must be sent.

I went looking in the log files that should have been generated by
the job in /var/amanda/log and so forth, and something indeed happened
last week Friday as it should have when it should have. I just need to
know how to determine that it was the right thing. You know, did my
configuration actually backup what it was supposed to. It should have
backed up the local box (tape host), and retrieved the '/' directory
structure of my classroom server. It definitely contacted my class
server and all, but how do I know it got the information it was supposed to?

Andy
