Type "file <hostname>.local.hda1.20020511.0" It will tell you it's a tar file, or dump image, according to what dump program you're using with amanda.

No Problem. Now I run "amrestore <tapefile> <hostname>". This restores 2 files to my directory: <hostname>.local.hda1.20020511.0 <hostname>.local.hda3.20020511.0 Now, what can I do with those files, what format are they in ? (I thought this command would restore all files on hda1/hda3 in case of something going really bad...) Thanks a lot for answering this newbie question !
