Hi All,

I recently upgraded my amanda version to 2.4.3b3 as part of a move from solaris
2.6 to 2.8 (in particular, the upgrade seemed necessary in order to use Sun's
generic sgen driver with amanda) However, I am now encountering some problems
when I try to restore a file using amrecover. First of all amrecover does not
seem to pick up my tape device from the existing configuration. In the new
version is it mandatory to do a settape every time I restore. When I then
proceed to restore, I get the following error at the console:

Load tape WkDaySet1-12 now
Continue? [Y/n/t]: Y
EOF, check amidxtaped.debug file on lenox.
amrecover: short block 0 bytes
UNKNOWN file
amrecover: Can't read file header
extract_list - child returned non-zero status: 1

My amidxtaped.debug file reads like this

amidxtaped: debug 1 pid 4945 ruid 105 euid 105 start time Mon Jul  8 16:58:33 20
02

Ready to execv amrestore with:
path = /usr/local/sbin/amrestore
argv[0] = "amrestore"
argv[1] = "-h"
argv[2] = "-p"
argv[3] = "/dev/rmt/0n"
argv[4] = "lenox"
argv[5] = "^/dev/dsk/c2t5d0s0$"
argv[6] = "20020707"
amrestore: WARNING: not at start of tape, file numbers will be offset
amrestore: 0: reached end of information
amidxtaped: amrestore terminated normally with status: 1
Rewinding tape: done
amidxtaped: pid 4945 finish time Mon Jul 8 16:59:45 2002

------------------------------------------------------------
Also, amrecover suddenly demands that I run it as root, why?

I greatly appreciate your help,
-> Pinchas Lev
