gnutar, aka tar, preferably version 1.13-25, must be present and 
installed on the system someplace in the PATH in order for the 
configure script to find it.  Its location is hard-coded into the 
executables as they are built, and if it wasn't findable when 
configure was last run, then amanda can't use it.
