Hi,

RUN, don't walk, to

ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/tar/
and get the latest tar version from there,
compile and install it.
gnutar 1.13 is an evil program in conjunction with amanda.
It produces corrupt indizees and, more worse,
kind of corrupted backup archives.
