Heh. Amanda gets whacked by the Nigerian spam too.

At SSC we've been struggling with this sort of thing, and while we have
not succeeded entirely in eliminating spam from our mailing lists,
we're pretty close.

Of course most of our lists are members-only post, which so far screens
out a lot of stuff. However as spamware becomes more clever, learning
for example how to double-opt-in to common mailing list managers before
spamming the lists, members-only becomes a less effective refuge.
One day soon mailing lists will all need to start using probationary
periods or start moderating all postings.

A SpamAssassin front-end on a list helps. Run in front of the mailing
list via procmail, this filter, working in concert with Vipul's Razor,
eliminates most spamd before they get even on to our one or two
open-posting lists.

One of our open-posting lists would otherwise have spread (lessee, lemme
countem ... ) about fifty spams on just one day last week. On that
particular day, SpamAssassin intercepted them all.
