Amanda has a lot of configure-time options, user and group being required ones. Going through those can not only give you a more customized install (e.g., all my clients were compiled with --with-index-server set, so I can run amrecover without command line options) but also can give a new user a better understanding of how amanda works. I do prefer RPMs for almost everything I do. But I still install amanda from source for the customization benefits. -- Joshua Baker-LePain Department of Biomedical Engineering Duke University
