Hi Jerry,
what a about a very different idea?
> ... of putting a wrapper around amandad,
have you ever tried the Logical Volume Manager?
- shut down the mysql before amanda is going to run
- issue a snapshot and restart your database
- mount that snapshot to a specific mountpoint
- now let amanda perform the backup on the consistent snapshot
of your database from that mountpoint
Your benefit would be, that your database is up running while the backup is performed - your downtime would reduced.
Another way - perfrom mysql-dump, this can be done while the database is running, backup the folder to where the dumps did go.
Bye
