Hi all!
I have a running Amanda config that runs on 20 DLT tapes and a changer. I would like
to make Amanda go on disk storage rather than tape storage (the "file:" driver).
But I have a security problem. What if my disks crash? A Raid 5 is of course the first
thing I would do, but if my server gets a power overload, all of my disks would burn,
and so the backup data... I like the tapes because when the data is written, only fire
or water could make me loose this data. And this list of breakdown causes is bigger if
I use hard disks instead of tapes.

Why the hell do I want to unplug my brilliant DLT changer? Mainly because of its
performances: Amanda tells me it uses 1000ko/s writing a tape, and about 6500ko/s
writing a disk. And I like this speed very much, because of the time needed to back up
data, and mainly because of the time needed to restore them...

But I am quite afraid of some hardware security issues. Could you help me imagine a
new backup security policy? Maybe 2 Amandas, one daily incremental going on disk, and
one weekly always full going on tape? But that's weird, because one day per week I
will have 2 Amandas getting the same data from the same clients, and the clients do
not really like that 2 different Amandas run on them in the same time...

Any ideas?

Thanks!
