Build it. Seriously. Right from the tar.gz Get it from the link to a umontreal site near the bottom of the page at www.amanda.org. Building and installing your own will make you much more familiar with how amanda works than installing a deb or rpm ever will. That in turn leads to the familiarity that will allow you to confidently make adjustments as you optimise it for your own usages. One hint. Huge hint... As amanda is a slowly moving target from snapshot release to snapshot release, one way to maintain inter-version compatibility as you upgrade it from time to time is to make the configuration used at your site into a script that you just copy to the src tree of each new version. That will save headaches in future time by way of making sure each new one can continue to run with the existing configurations, exactly as the older version ran, but with a bugfix or two in the new one. Using this method I ran yesterdays snapshot last night, and it worked normally, or "great". It only takes maybe 4 to 5 minutes (on a reasonably fast machine) to install each new one if you follow the right proceedure. -- Cheers, Gene AMD [EMAIL PROTECTED] 320M [EMAIL PROTECTED] 512M 99.25% setiathome rank, not too shabby for a WV hillbilly Yahoo.com attornies please note, additions to this message by Gene Heskett are: Copyright 2003 by Maurice Eugene Heskett, all rights reserved.
