(This is all from memory, so details are not available) I have a Linux server and three windows client machines. Amanda, running on the server, backs up the server just fine. However, when I try to back up a win98se share, the backup fails, claiming the backup is longer than the tape. Investigating the log, I see that the estimated backup size for my 50% full 2 GB disk is something like 21 GB!! Of course that wouldn't fit on the tape!
I tried changing the backup to only back up c:\My Documents. The claimed backup size is now smaller, but still larger than the tape. Can anyone suggest what causes these wild estimates, and how I can fix the problem? I installed Amanda from the SuSE 8.1 Pro distribution. Rich
